New Year Resolutions for NASCAR in 2010

We are closing in on the ball dropping on another year, and for the first time in recent years our sport is in serious trouble heading into the next season. Fans have stopped filling the stands, and they have stopped watching it on television as much. Not only that but there is a severe lack of rivalries on the track, lack of personalities off the track, and a certain most popular driver is noticeably missing from victory lane more and more each season.

Now I know Nascar can’t control all of these things, but they sure can make a few New Years Resolutions that will begin to fix a lot of what is decaying the sport we love so dearly.

NASCAR: Want To Make Money? Start And Park Your Way To Riches!

Mike Wallace is not one of the regular drivers at the Sprint Cup level of NASCAR, but at Pocono he was one of a growing breed of drivers that are making more race entries: a start and park driver. A start and park driver is where you have a team with little or no money that will bring a car to the race track, qualify it, run a few laps at the start of a race, park the car for the rest of the race, and collect the purse for coming in last or near the bottom.

LONG POND, Pa.— As it turned out, Denny Hamlin was right … but not without a struggle, and not without a heavy heart.

Having said Friday that he expected to win the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway, Hamlin charged to the front from the sixth position with 13th laps left in Monday’s rain-postponed race and ended a 50-race drought in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series.
