Overcoming NASCAR Withdrawal
As big a fan as I am, and I never miss a race, last November the unthinkable happened. I was burned out and ready for the season to be over. I was sick and tired of NASCAR, and ready for it to be done.
The Definition of Loyalty: NASCAR Fans
By: Toby Christie
They’ve been called rednecks, hillbillies, beer chuggin’ cussin’ no goods, and even racists to the ignorant few who haven’t met them. You can call them whatever you want, but what they truly are is loyal. I’m of course talking about NASCAR fans. The most loyal of all fans in the entire world of [...]
New Year Resolutions for NASCAR in 2010
We are closing in on the ball dropping on another year, and for the first time in recent years our sport is in serious trouble heading into the next season. Fans have stopped filling the stands, and they have stopped watching it on television as much. Not only that but there is a severe lack of rivalries on the track, lack of personalities off the track, and a certain most popular driver is noticeably missing from victory lane more and more each season.
Now I know Nascar can’t control all of these things, but they sure can make a few New Years Resolutions that will begin to fix a lot of what is decaying the sport we love so dearly.
On NASCAR: Drivers Are Indeed Athletes
I think the first really in-depth piece of NASCAR-related writing I ever did was for inclusion in a USA Today special section during NASCAR Champion’s Week six or seven years ago. The story was titled, “Drivers are athletes.”
I did my due diligence, researched the topic thoroughly, and put together a convincing argument lauding NASCAR drivers’ athletic and competitive skills. Whether it swayed anyone’s opinion, I will never know.
NSCS: Is Jimmie Johnson Heir To The Throne With Latest Accolades?
The accomplishments continue to pile on for Jimmie Johnson, and its things no other drivers have done in the past. Johnson took home his fourth consecutive Sprint Cup Series trophy this season which is a feat no driver has been able to pull off in the 61 year history of Nascar.
Not only that, but Johnson also picked up another award that no race car driver in any form of motorsports has been able to achieve.
NSCS: The Third Annual Loopies
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 11, 2009) – Because a week’s worth of award ceremonies in Las Vegas wasn’t nearly enough time to divvy out accolades, NASCAR Public Relations needs one more opportunity to dole out some final pats on the back.
It’s time for the “Third Annual Loopy Awards,” a ceremony commemorating the best – and worst – Loop Data performances of the 2009 season.
The envelopes please…
NASCAR: Does The Chase Format Reward Or Harm Drivers?
Congratulations to Jimmie Johnson, and the entire #48 team, for winning a fourth consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship. This is an accomplishment that has never been done before in the 62-year history of NASCAR. Not to take anything from that feat, but did the Chase format give him an additional advantage?
NSCS Recap: Johnson grabs fourth straight title; Hamlin wins race
HOMESTEAD, Fla.— Done deal.
“How ’bout some history?!” Jimmie Johnson shouted as the crossed the finish line at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Season’s Cheer For Successful 2009
It hardly seems possible that the 2009 NASCAR season is so close to being neatly wrapped, beribboned and placed carefully into racing’s record books. And while late November may not be the traditionally-accepted time for reflection –- December 31 lays claim to that honor –- sometimes we are controlled by our circumstances, rather than the other way around.
