For Immediate Release

Crew Chief Gil Martin Wins Season-Best Fifth Crew Chief Of The Race Award

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Aug. 17, 2010) – Kevin Harvick and the No. 29 Richard Childress Racing team used a strategic call by crew chief Gil Martin to take the checkered flag, clinch a spot in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup and win three post-race contingency awards at Sunday’s CARFAX 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Martin collected his fifth DirecTV Crew Chief of the Race Award this season, taking the lead in the race for the annual award.

Martin’s latest DirecTV Crew Chief of the Race Award puts him ahead of Dave Rogers (No. 18 Interstate Batteries Toyota) who has four and Kevin Manion (No. 1 Philips Norelco Chevrolet) who has three. Darian Grubb, crew chief of the No. 14 Office Depot/Old Spice team, won the 2009 award, which is presented to the team who demonstrates the best qualifying and race efforts based on the average of qualifying and finishing position.

Harvick led 60 laps at Michigan, capturing his third WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race Award of 2010. As the race winner, Harvick also captured the Sunoco Diamond Performance Award as the highest finishing eligible driver.

The awards are part of the NASCAR Prize Money and Decal Program, also referred to as the Contingency program, which provide teams prize money and weekly awards based on performance in several categories.

The win was Harvick’s third of the season but his first at Michigan in 20 starts. He has seven top-10 finishes there. His previous best finish was second in August 2003.

“It’s a lot of fun to come to the race track right now,” Harvick said after the race. “Everybody is doing a great job of not only continuing to press but to put better things on the race track and put things together correctly and just do a great job at the shop.”

After starting eighth, the No. 29 Shell/Pennzoil Chevrolet stayed near the front of the field, biding time and working the high side of the two-mile track. The second half of the race proved to be the time to move. Harvick took the lead briefly on Lap 102 then stayed up front for more than 40 laps. A series of restarts put Harvick back into a battle with Denny Hamlin and Tony Stewart. A strategic call with 30 laps remaining to stay out when most of the field pitted, kept the No. 29 car in clean air. Working the high line, Harvick passed Hamlin with 10 laps to go, the 17th lead change of the race, and took the checkered flag.

“Clean air was a big bonus today,” Martin said post-race. “With Tony (Stewart) staying out, knowing we had somebody to draft with, and not having any cautions at the end, led us to where we could stretch out. If we could get four or five laps, let the tires heat up, we could stretch it out, because we were probably on average about 2/10ths better than the field most of the run.”

“It was a great day for us for more than one reason. The season has gone so well from last year, but to come to Michigan, be able to run the way we did today, after the way we’ve run here the past three years, this shows how far the organization has come as a whole, not to mention the fact that Kevin did a great job today running the high line all day long. It takes a lot to do that here, to make that happen. Everything that happened in the pits today, the engines, the cars. I can’t say enough about the whole organization.”

2010 CONTINGENCY PARTNERS NATIONAL SERIES AWARDS

Heading into Saturday night’s IRWIN Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Harvick continues to lead the standings. Official winners of this week’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Prize Money & Decal Program special awards include:

COORS LIGHT POLE AWARD: Kasey Kahne, 187.183 mph, 38.465 seconds

DIRECTV CREW CHIEF OF THE RACE AWARD: Gil Martin (crew chief for Kevin Harvick)

GOODYEAR GATORBACK BELTS FASTEST LAP AWARD: Jimmie Johnson (183.983 mph, Lap 2)

MAHLE CLEVITE ENGINE BUILDER OF THE RACE AWARD: Greg Biffle

MOBIL 1 “COMMAND PERFORMANCE DRIVER OF THE RACE” AWARD: Juan Pablo Montoya

MOOG CHASSIS PARTS PROBLEM SOLVER OF THE RACE AWARD: Todd Parrott (crew chief for Elliott Sadler)

NASCAR SPRINT CUP LEADER BONUS: Kevin Harvick

O’REILLY AUTO PARTS POSITION IMPROVEMENT AWARD: Denny Hamlin (31 places)

SUNOCO DIAMOND PERFORMANCE AWARD: Kevin Harvick

TISSOT “PIT ROAD PRECISION” AWARD: Tony Stewart (205.605 seconds)

WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER AWARD: Kevin Harvick (60 laps)

The NASCAR Prize Money & Decal Program, commonly referred to as the contingency program, is administered by the NASCAR Automotive Group. The program strives to build strong relationships with high-quality, performance-driven brands that are leaders in their respective categories and award money to NASCAR teams via per-race and year-end postings. Competitors become eligible for awards money by displaying partner decals on the front fender of their race vehicles and, in some instances, use of a sponsor’s product. National series contingency sponsors will contribute over $8.8 million to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series, and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams in 2010.

For Immediate Release

No. 42 driver, team dominate road-course race with powerful ECR engine

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (August 10, 2010) – Using road-course prowess, raw horsepower and strategic calls in a dominating performance in Sunday’s Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen, Juan Pablo Montoya and the No. 42 Earnhardt Ganassi Racing team visited victory lane for the first time this season, picking up the race win and six post-race contingency awards.

Montoya, who manhandled the 2.45 mile road course all day, pulled away from Marcos Ambrose and Kurt Busch over the final 16 laps at Watkins Glen International to notch his second career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory, and add yet another trophy to the Earnhardt Ganassi Racing team stable.
Montoya, who has seven top-10 finishes in eight career road-course races, gave Earnhardt Ganassi Racing its third victory of the 2010 season (Jamie McMurray: Daytona and Indianapolis) and first at Watkins Glen International.

Adding to the victory, Montoya, crew chief Brian Pattie and the No. 42 Target team also picked up the DIRECTV Crew Chief of the Race, Goodyear Gatorback Fastest Lap of the Race, MAHLE Clevite Engine Builder of the Race, Mobil 1 Command Performance Driver of the Race, Sunoco Diamond Performance, and WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race awards.

The awards are part of the NASCAR Prize Money and Decal Program, also referred to as the Contingency program, which provide teams prize money and weekly awards based on performance in several categories.

Montoya, who led the most laps (74) during the 90-lap event, captured his third WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race award of 2010. Upon turning the fastest lap of the race while leading (122.196 mph on lap 80), Montoya locked up the Goodyear Gatorback Fastest Lap of Race award, also his third of the year. As the race winner, Montoya also racked up the Mobil 1 Command Performance Driver of the Race award, as well as the Sunoco Diamond Performance award as the highest finishing eligible driver.

“To come out and get the job done the way we did, it was big,” said Montoya after the win. “I feel more relieved than happy right now. I think getting the first win [this season] is a big boost for the whole team. We just have to keep doing our job.”

The win marked crew chief Brian Pattie’s first career victory in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. In addition to the victory, Pattie also picked up the DIRECTV Crew Chief of the Race award for best qualifying and race effort based on the average of starting and finishing position during the weekend.

“Couldn’t happen at a better place for me personally,” said Pattie post-race. “This [Watkins Glen] is my favorite track. I just feel comfortable here.”
With a powerful engine under-the-hood of the No. 42 Target Chevrolet, Earnhardt Childress Racing Engines was awarded the MAHLE Clevite Engine Builder of the Race award. ECR Engines, who builds powerplants for Montoya and McMurray at Earnhardt Ganassi Racing and for Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton and Clint Bowyer at Richard Childress Racing, is having a dream year. They’ve captured wins in the Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400, finished second with McMurray in the Southern 500 at Darlington and Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte, and won at Talladega with Harvick this season. ECR Engines currently leads the MAHLE Clevite Engine Builder of the Year competition with 206 points.

Heading into Sunday’s CARFAX 400 at Michigan International, Montoya and the No. 42 team have five top-5 and nine top-10 finishes to their credit this season, and currently sit 19th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings.

About the NASCAR Prize Money & Decal Program

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 14, 2010) – After rocketing the Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates’ No. 1 McDonald’s Chevrolet to the Coors Light Pole for the third time this season, Jamie McMurray powered his way to a top-five finish and five post-race contingency awards in Saturday night’s LifeLock.com 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.

McMurray, along with crew chief Kevin “Bono” Manion and the No. 1 pit crew, captured the Coors Light Pole on Friday, moving to the top of the season charts with three poles. Additionally, the team picked up the DirecTV Crew Chief of the Race, MAHLE Clevite Engine Builder of the Race, Tissot “Pit Road Precision,” and WIX Filters Lap Leader awards.

The awards are part of the NASCAR Prize Money and Decal Program, also referred to as the contingency program, which provides teams prize money and weekly awards based on performance in several categories.

McMurray, who led Saturday’s 43-car field to the green flag, also led 72 laps during the 267-lap event, earning the WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race Award, given to the eligible driver who leads the most laps during each week’s race.

With a powerful engine for the No. 1 team, Earnhardt Childress Racing (ECR) Engines was awarded the MAHLE Clevite Engine Builder of the Race honor based on qualifying and finishing position. This is the second straight week ECR has captured the engine builder honors.

“It was a great weekend for us,” said Richie Gilmore, COO of ECR. “We captured the pole in four series over the weekend including the No. 1 car in Chicago. We couldn’t do what we do without the great partnership with MAHLE Clevite. We started out of the box winning with the No. 1 car at the Daytona 500 and to have the success we did in Chicago is a great testimony to the hard work we put in here at ECR.”

McMurray’s fifth-place finish marked the team’s fifth top five of 2010.

“Really a good run for our McDonald’s Chevrolet,” McMurray said post-race. “I thought the first half of the race we had one of the best cars … us and the 48. Bono did a really good job adjusting on the car and getting it tighter. It is really cool to get runs like this in the McDonald’s car here in Chicago.”

The No. 1 pit crew, who produced fast pit stops all night, picked up the Tissot “Pit Road Precision” Award for spending the least amount of time on pit road (189.002 seconds) among lead-lap cars.

Manion, who brought the same chassis that captured the Coors Light Pole and finished second at Darlington in May, racked up the DirecTV Crew Chief of the Race Award for displaying the best qualifying and race effort as determined by the average of qualifying result and race finish.

“All of us at Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing are extremely proud to have brought home the numerous contingency awards from Chicagoland,” Manion said. “While we strive to bring home victories each week, I can’t say enough about how hard our guys worked to have the kind of success that we did at Chicago. I take a lot of pride in winning the Coors Light Pole, it just says something that we can set our car up to run the fastest lap out of all the other great competitors out there.”

After enjoying a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series open-weekend, McMurray, the reigning Daytona 500 winner, will head into the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 25. He’s 18th series standings, 181 points out of 12th.

About the NASCAR Prize Money & Decal Program

Kevin Harvick Scores Five Contingency Awards in Daytona

RCR driver dominates race, solidifies hold on top spot in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points standings

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 7, 2010) – With a dominating performance in Saturday night’s thrilling Coke Zero 400 Powered by Coca-Cola, Kevin Harvick and the No. 29 Richard Childress Racing team visited victory lane for the second time this season, picking up the race win and five contingency awards at Daytona International Speedway.

Adding to the victory, Harvick, crew chief Gil Martin and the No. 29 team also picked up the DIRECTV Crew Chief of the Race, Goodyear Gatorback Fastest Lap of the Race, MAHLE Clevite Engine Builder of the Race, Sunoco Diamond Performance, and WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race awards.

The awards are part of the NASCAR Prize Money and Decal Program, also referred to as the contingency program, which provide teams prize money and weekly awards based on performance in several categories.

Harvick, who started the race up front, dodged the late-race on-track fireworks and held off Kasey Kahne on a green-white-checkered finish to capture the July Fourth Daytona race victory. The win marked the eighth time in 52 races the summer Daytona race has been won from the Coors Light pole.

In a race that set a new event record with 18 different leaders, Harvick led the most laps (28) during the 166-lap event picking up the WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race award. Upon turning the fastest lap while leading the race (193.353 mph on lap 2), Harvick captured the Goodyear Gatorback Fastest Lap of Race award. He also picked up his second Sunoco Diamond Performance award of 2010 as the highest finishing eligible driver plus the NASCAR Sprint Cup Leader Bonus for winning the race while also leading the points standings.

Harvick, whose past three victories have come on restrictor-plate tracks, was proud to have captured the final race on the 2.5-mile Daytona track’s current pavement which is in the process of undergoing its first asphalt facelift since 1978.

“I think this racetrack is obviously the most historic racetrack that we race on, and I think if that asphalt could talk, you can go back and look at all the stories,” said Harvick post-race. “It’s just such a neat deal to be able to win the last race on that particular asphalt. Any time you can win, though, whether it’s new asphalt or old asphalt, it’s always going to be the baddest place to win, and that’s Daytona.”

With a powerful engine under-the-hood of the No. 29 Chevrolet, Earnhardt Childress Racing Engines was awarded the MAHLE Clevite Engine Builder of the Race honor based on qualifying and finishing position. Crew chief Gil Martin also racked up his fourth DIRECTV Crew Chief of the Race award this year for best qualifying and race effort based on finishing times during the weekend.

“Can’t say enough about ECR engines and the way all three cars ran up front. Just a good night,” said Martin.

Harvick’s win, the thirteenth of his career, marks Richard Childress Racing’s 91st NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory and fifth at Daytona.

“I’m just proud of everybody at RCR for all the hard work they did to get these cars going,” commented team owner Richard Childress. “ECR engines were running great. Kevin is becoming one of these guys that wins the restrictor plate races. He’s kind of like Dale, Sr. – you knew he was going to be a factor in it. To have all three RCR cars up there leading the race, racing with each other, it was really cool to watch.”

Heading into Saturday night’s LifeLock400.com at Chicagoland Speedway, Harvick maintains a 212-point lead in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings, while RCR teammates Jeff Burton and Clint Bowyer sit eighth and fourteenth respectively.

About the NASCAR Prize Money & Decal Program
