Gander Outdoor Truck Series

TBT: Johnny Sauter Wins at Charlotte

The NASCAR Gander Outdoor Truck Series heads to Charlotte Motor Speedway this Friday evening for the North Carolina Education Lottery 200.

ThorSport Racing’s driver Johnny Sauter will look to repeat his victory that he earned one year ago and visit victory lane in his No. 13 Ford for the second time in 2019.

The date last year was May 18, 2018 and Sauter headed to Charlotte having earned 5 top-10 finishes and captured victories at both Daytona and Dover.

Sauter started the event from the pole position in his No. 21 ISM Connect Chevrolet for GMS Racing and would lead 71 of 134 laps including the restart with 10 laps to go in route to his third victory of the young season.

The win marked the first time the driver had won at CLT in his career.

“We won at Charlotte! This is the biggest of my life”, Sauter said on the radio after the race.

“This is a tough place. Everyone wants to win here. I never thought I’d win here. To win this race is just super special. I never thought 40 (years old) would be so good. This is the biggest race of my career, and I’ve won a lot of big races. We kept making adjustments on the truck all night and made it better and better.” Sauter said.

Sauter heads into Friday evening’s event with 1 win (Dover), 3 top-5’s, 5 top-10 finishes and 71 laps led. He has an average start this season of 9.9 to go along with an average finish of 9.7.
