PINTY: Alex Labbe returns for 2019 campaign

on

Alex Labbe can attest to the saying that in racing, like life in general, fate can be a cruel mistress. In 2017, he was the NASCAR Pinty Series champion. In 2018, he got a full-time ride in the NASCAR Xfinity series with fellow Canadian Mario Gosselin and his DGM Racing. Labbe constantly outperformed his equipment and bagged many top-20 finishes and was looking sure to come back even stronger in 2019. However, as the off season went on, his ride was never announced, and eventually it came out that lack of sponsorship meant he was out of a full-time ride.

He ran super late models through the winter to stay sharp, and competed in three events for DGM so far in the Xfinity series, but last week at the Salon Auto-Sport Quebec automotive expo in Quebec City, it was announced that Alex would return to the Pinty series for a full season effort behind the wheel of the #36 Ford for Jacombs Racing; which was the same team that he won the 2017 Championship with.  With sponsorship from Hotel le Concorde of Quebec City, Silver Wax and others, his black and neon Ford will be hard to miss out on the track.

Speaking with the media at the announcement, Labbe praised the series, saying “I’ve always enjoyed running the Pinty Series, it is really competitive.” He noted how this reunion with the team had been in the works for quite a while, and would not have been possible without the help of Martin D’Anjou of FestiDrag.tv. “I have been trying to work a deal with Dave (Jacombs) for a long time, we had alot of help from Martin (D’Anjou). He is the one who brought the sponsorship from le Concorde…we finally are able to build a good program and go for another championship this year.”

With Labbe’s return, there at minimum potential six-way fight for the championship brewing, with reigning champion L.P. Dumoulin, Kevin Lacroix, Alex Tagliani, Alex Ranger and former champion D.J. Kennington plus a host of other drivers ready to make their names and compete for the title. The 2019 Pinty Series Championship kicks off this weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario. The race can be streamed live at fanschoice.tv.
