NGOTS: Spencer Boyd Earns Career Best Finish in Trucks Season Opener

It was a wild Friday night in the NASCAR Gander Outdoor Truck Series season opener Next Era Energy Resources 250 from Daytona International Speedway.

It was also a night that Young’s Motorsports driver Spencer Boyd will never forget.

Boyd did everything right last night in his first race with the organization, which began when he qualified his No. 20 1AAuto Chevrolet Silverado to a 14th place starting position, a career best qualifying effort.

The 23-year old managed to avoid all the race carnage, being one of only nine trucks to finish the race when the checkers waved, running as high as second in the final laps.

Boyd crossed the checkers with a 4th place finish, a career-best for the Missouri native and the best finish for Young’s Motorsports to date.

“Just trying to get a solid run and prove to everyone that I’ve got what it takes to be at this level. To come away with a top-5, first race of the year, being new to the trucks, and new Young’s Motorsports, it’s just a dream come true for me, said Boyd after the race.”

Boyd will run the full NGOTS schedule for Young’s Motorsports this season in the No. 20 and is eligible to run for Sunoco Rookie of The Year honors with having only run a limited schedule in the series previously.
