MENCS: The Bojangles Southern 500 starting lineup

DARLINGTON, S.C. — With practice sessions and qualifying in the books, the 69th annual Bojangles Southern 500 is slated to take the green flag shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday evening at Darlington Raceway.

The first stage ends after 100 laps and the second stage concluded after 200 laps. The total race distance is 367 laps, or 501.3 miles. This is the penultimate race of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series regular season.

The winner of last year’s Southern 500, Denny Hamlin will start from the pole position. Embracing what has become a soft tradition, Hamlin’s car sports a paint scheme reminiscent of that design he ran as a young child. Starting next to the defending winner is Kyle Larson, who’s driving a car similar to Davey Allison’s 1987 paint scheme.

Points leader, Kyle Busch is starting on the inside of the third row in fifth. The two other big three drivers, Martin Truex Jr. and Kevin Harvick will start third and 22nd.

The winner of Saturday’s 200 mile race, Brad Keselowski rolls off the grid 13th. He’ll look to sweep the weekend, just like Hamlin did last year. Ross Chastain, who led the most laps in Saturday’s event is driving for Premium Motorsports and will start his first Southern 500 from the 33rd position.

Race coverage begins on NBC Sports at 6 p.m., and radio coverage can be found through MRN and Sirius XM Satellite radio.
