NXS: Ross Chastain Continues 2018 Success in Thunder Valley

on

NASCAR Xfinity Series driver, Ross Chastain finished 12th in the Food City 300, continuing JD Motorsports’ impressive season.

Chastain has spent most of this season earning top-15 and top-20 finishes which are huge for a small operation such as his team.

The 25-year-old Alva, Florida native’s worst finishes of the season to this point have come at Texas (28th, rear gear problems) and Talladega (34th, suspension issues).

Those obstacles aside, Chastain has shown he can take an “underdog team” to solid finishes week in and week out.

Friday night’s Food City 300 from Bristol Motor Speedway was no different.

Chastain qualified his No. 4 Flex Seal Chevrolet to an 18th place starting spot and by lap 40 he would be running 16th.

Around lap 69 Chastain reported that his No. 4 was really tight, but he didn’t want to give up rear security. He would finish stage 1 in 14th.

When the second stage went green on lap 94, Chastain started the stage in the 13th position and would consistently run the stage in the Top-15 and end the stage just outside the Top-10 in the 12th position.

Chastain’s worse complaint during the final stage was he had lost the turn, even with that he was able to bring the No. 4 home to a solid 12th place finish. Chastain is having a very successful season for JD Motorsports and his best season in the NXS to date.

In his 22 starts this season he has 1 top-5, 5 top-10’s and 17 top-20 finishes.

When looking at his 2017 season, Chastain had 1 top-5, 2 top-10’s, and 21 top-20 finishes.

Chastain is on course to surpass or tie his top-20 finishes for one season considering he already has 17 this season and there’s still 11 races left on the schedule.

There is no denying the driver has improved his statistics, year over year. Chastain is showing he can do a lot with a little and run towards the front of the pack with the bigger teams.

The NXS heads to Road America next Saturday where Chastain has two top-15 finishes in three previous starts, including a 19th place result last season.

Chastain currently sits 12th in the NXS points standings.
