Handy: Joey Gase, Go Green Racing Continue to have a Consistent Season

Go Green Racing’s Joey Gase is no stranger to the NASCAR Xfinity Series having raced in the series over the last eight years, but have you noticed how consistent his 2018 season has been?

Maybe you haven’t, but I have.

In their first full-time season together, Gase and Go Green Racing have racked up 7 top-20 finishes in 12 starts, including a season best 16th twice (Fontana and Bristol) and currently sit a solid 18th in the points standings.

The season is still young but Gase has improved his average starting and finishing position from his 2017 campaign and continues to have the best season of his career.

Gase’s average starting position in 2017 was 33.7. So far in 2018, it’s 23.4. While his average finishing position was 26.8 and currently at this point this season its 21.2.

That’s quite the improvement and his statistics could improve even further with the NXS season not concluding until mid-November at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Gase’s consistency and the ability to bring solid finishes home for a small team like his own shows he knows how to do a lot with a little.

Gase had a solid run in Saturday afternoon’s Pocono Green 250 Recycled by J.P. Mascaro & Sons from Pocono Raceway in Long Pond Pennsylvania.

After running 24th after the first stage and 22nd at the end of the second stage, Gase was able to work his way into the top-20 and finish in the 19th position for his third top-20 finish in a row.

The NXS is headed to Michigan International Speedway for the LTi Printing 200 and it’s a track where Gase will look to earn back-to-back top-20 finishes.

In five career starts in the Xfinity Series at the track Gase has an average finish of 26.30. In this race last June, the 25-year old finished in the 25th position after starting 35th.

With how Gase has run this season there’s a very good chance he improves upon his statistics at MIS and he could even earn his first top-15 finish of the season.

I recently had the opportunity to ask Gase his thoughts on racing at MIS and how he likes the track. Here’s what the driver of the No. 35 Sparks Energy Chevrolet had to say.

“Michigan is a track I really enjoy going to for many different reasons. The fans and the environment is always great there and the Irish Hills is a very beautiful area. The track is also a ton a fun and it’s one of the fastest tracks we go to. Now with the new package we will be running this weekend I think it will be very different than anything we’ve ever seen there before. I think the type of racing we will produce may be very similar to what you might see at Daytona or Talladega, Gase said.”

I also asked Gase his thoughts on the season so far and here is what he had to say.

“I am pleased with how our team has been performing this season and I’m very happy how we have been making gains in points. I think we have all the right tools so that we can continue to climb in the standings. We haven’t set the world on fire yet, but we have been very consistent and we’re slowly getting better every week as we build our notebook. I’m hopeful we can start getting some top 15 finishes here very soon, Gase said.”
