TBT: David Ragan Wins Talladega, First Win for Front Row Motorsports

David Ragan is one of the best in the sport when it comes to racing on the plate tracks in NASCAR. He went on to prove that once again on May 5, 2013 when he scored his second career win Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (formerly Sprint) in the Aaron’s 499 from Talladega Superspeedway.

At the time it was a true “David vs. Goliath” moment when Ragan and his Front Row Motorsports teammate, David Gilliland finished 1,2 in the race.

Gilliland was crucial in Ragan earning the win after he delivered drafting pushes to Ragan in the two-lap overtime finish.

The victory marked Ragan’s second on a plate track, but the first win for his underfunded FRM team.

Ragan’s first Cup victory came in the July 2011 Coke Zero 400 when he was driving the No. 6 Ford Fusion for Roush Fenway Racing.

Due to rainy weather at the time it took seven hours for the race to conclude but when it did Ragan found his No. 34 Farm Rich Ford Fusion in victory lane.

“This is a true David vs. Goliath moment here. This is special to get Front Row Motorsports their first win. It feels like I’ve never been in Victory Lane before, I’m so excited. We’re a small team. We build our own chassis, our own bodies, and it’s such a special moment for our team and all of our partners. This is big, Ragan said after the race.”

Ragan will once again be behind the wheel of a Front Row Motorsports entry in the No. 38 Ford Fusion after spending time in the Cup series with Michael Waltrip Racing and BK Racing in previous seasons.

Keep an eye on Ragan to be in serious contention for the win come Sunday when the MENCS returns to Talladega Superspeedway. In his two starts at the famed superspeedway last season he had back-to-back finishes of 10th.
