MENCS: Martin Truex Jr. Wins the TicketGuardian 500 Pole


Martin Truex Jr. saved is best lap for last Friday evening in knockout qualifying for Sunday’s TicketGuardian 500 at ISM Raceway. Truex’s lap time of 26.288 seconds at 136.945 mph to claim the pole at the 1-mile track in the desert. 

Kyle Larson, who led the only practice before qualifying , was second quickest in the third and final round of qualifying to start on the out side pole position.

Chase Elliott and his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman will make up the second row while Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin will start 4th and 5th, respectively. 

Jimmie Johnson failed to make it out of round two after leading the 37-car field in round 1. He’ll start 17th.

Qualifying didn’t go without issues as Jeffrey Earnhardt hit the wall during round one after locking up his brakes going into Turn 3. The qualifying was briefly shown the red flag as crews cleaned up the track.

The green flag will fall on the TicketGuardian 500 at ISM Raceway Sunday at 3:30 pm ET.
