MENCS: Matt Kenseth Fastest in Opening Apache Warrior 400 Practice


DOVER, Del. – Matt Kenseth posted the fastest lap in the first and only MENCS practice on slate before qualifying Friday in preparation for the Apache Warrior 400 at the Monster Mile.

Kenseth’s lap time of 22.147 at 162.550 MPH laid on his seventh circuit paced opening practice at Dover. Kenseth, a three-time winner at Dover, isn’t locked into the Round of 12 and looking to carry Friday’s momentum into the whole weekend.

Kyle Larson, who is already secured his place in the Round of 12 due to points, was second fastest with a lap time of 22.219 at 162.023 MPH. Jimmie Johnson (22.219 at 162.023 MPH), Kyle Busch (22.225 at 161.980 MPH) and Kevin Harvick (22.264 at 161.696 MPH).

Already locked into the Round of 12 is Martin Truex Jr, Busch, Larson, and Brad Keselowski. In opening practice, Truex Jr., was 8th on the speed charts while Keselowski was 16th fastest.

The slowest playoff driver was Austin Dillon is 27th and Kasey Kahne in 19th. Kahne is 16th in championship points and needs to win Sunday’s Apache Warrior 400 to move on in the playoffs.

Qualifying begins at 3:40 pm from Dover.
