NXS: Sam Hornish Jr. Leads Practice at Mid-Ohio

Former Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and open-wheel racer, Sam Hornish Jr.,  returned to the track for Team Penske this weekend to make the right and left handed turns at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

In the only practice of the day due to the first being rained-out, Hornish piloted his No. 22 Mustang around the road course in a time of 85.695 at 94.857. James Davidson, driving the No. 20 entry from Joe Gibbs Racing, was second fastest with a circuit time of 85.705 at 94.846. Matt Tift, Regan Smith and Cole Custer round out the top-five.

With no MENCS drivers entered in Saturday’s race, it’s time for the young drivers to make a name for themselves.

Qualifying for the Mid-Ohio Challenge is scheduled for Saturday at 12:00 pm ET and the green flag at 3:30 pm.
