MENCS: Blaney and Larson Lead Friday Practices


It was the young guns showing the way round Michigan International Speedway’s 2-mile track Friday as Ryan Blaney led opening practice and Kyle Larson paced the second practice for Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400.

Blaney’s time of 35.365 at 203.591 MPH was quickest. However, it was a trio of TRD power led by Kyle Busch for the next three spots. Busch posted a time of††of 35.586 at 202.327 MPH followed by Denny Hamlin (35.655 at 201.935 MPH) and Martin Truex Jr. (35.669 at 201.856 MPH). Brad Keselowski was fifth quickest on the chart in the opening practice session.

In the second practice of the day, Larson showed the way around the track as he posted a time of 35.550 at 202.532 MPH. Keselowski was second,†while †Jimmie Johnson, Blaney and Chase Elliott round out the fast five.
