MENCS: Kyle Larson Scores Coors Light Pole Award

on

Kyle Larson surged to the Coors Light Pole Award in Friday’s qualifying for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, sweeping all three rounds at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Larson, who was also fastest in Friday’s opening practice, posted a best lap of 133.324 mph with the Chip Ganassi Racing No. 42 Chevrolet on the 1.058-mile track. His fourth pole of the season was his first at New Hampshire and the fifth of his Monster Energy Series career.

Series points leader Martin Truex Jr. will start alongside Larson on the front row for Sunday’s Overton’s 301 (3 p.m. ET, NBCSN, PRN, SiriusXM) after qualifying second for the sixth time this year. He guided the Furniture Row Racing No. 78 Toyota to a speed of 133.077 mph in the last of three rounds of qualifying.

Truex and Larson sit 1-2 in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series standings. They also finished in that order last weekend at Kentucky Speedway.

Seven-time series champ Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth and Jamie McMurray completed the top five.

Aric Almirola will start 22nd in the Richard Petty Motorsports No. 43 Ford. Sunday’s 301-lap event will mark his first start after missing seven races with a broken back, suffered in a May 13 crash at Kansas Speedway.

David Ragan forced the only stoppage in qualifying with a lazy spin in Turn 1, shortly after exiting the pits just two minutes into the first round.
