#TBT: Matt DiBenedetto Finishes Career Best Sixth at Bristol

on

Last Spring, Matt DiBenedetto, who was then driving the No. 83 for BK Racing, finished a career and team best sixth place at Bristol Motor Speedway.

DiBenedetto drove a clean race and missed some of the events that plagued a few top drivers such as Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth.

With 50 laps to go DiBenedetto was in the 15th position, 25 laps later he was in the top 10 and when the checkered flag finally waved DiBenedetto found himself with his best MENCS finish a sixth-place result.

“I can’t thank my team enough, my crew chief Gene Need and everyone on this team for working so hard and busting their tails for me to be able to drive this race car in the Sprint Cup Series. This is such an honor and I’m so thankful to all the sponsors,” DiBenedetto said.

DiBenedetto’s best previous finish in the MENCS came at Talladega Superspeedway the previous May with an 18th place finish.

“A sixth-place finish for BK Racing and for all my guys, this is like a win for us, I apologize for being so emotional, but this is an incredible run.” DiBenedetto said.

At the time so many drivers would congratulate DiBenedetto on his great finish. Carl Edwards who went on to win the race was informed during the winner’s press conference of DiBenedetto’s finish.

“They finished sixth? Man, that’s unbelievable. That’s probably tougher than what we did. That’s a real testament to them,” Edwards said.

Fast forward to next week’s Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway and DiBenedetto will look to have a strong finish again at one of his favorite tracks on the circuit.

DiBenedetto no longer drives for BK Racing, but still drives for a small team. DiBenedetto now drives the No. 32 Ford Fusion for Go Fas Racing. They may be a single car team, but they are proving this season that they will never give up, and keep improving week in and week out.

Go Fas Racing tweeted earlier today about the upcoming race at Bristol with:

Don’t count out DiBenedetto on a track that he not only loves, but has proven he can finish well. If DiBenedetto can finish in the top 10 again it would give Go Fas Racing their second top 10 finish of the season. DiBenedetto got the team their first top 10 finish in history in this year’s Daytona 500, finishing in the 9th position for his second career top 10.

NASCAR returns April 23 at 2:00 EST with the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Coverage will air on your local Fox Station as well as PRN Radio.
