MENCS: Joey Logano Spoils Kyle Busch’s Shot at Victory

A week after Kyle Busch hunted down Joey Logano on pit road following the Kobalt 400, it was Logano that took a swing at Busch at Phoenix, but it wasn’t with his hands.

With six laps to go in Sunday’s Camping World 500, Logano blew a right front tire before crashing into the wall in Turn 1. Logano was running in the 11th position at the time of the incident. He finished 31st.

“There’s not much you can do when the right front blows out and you’re looking at that sharp corner,” stated Logano after leaving the infield care center.

Logano was one of many drivers that had issues with blown tires.

However, that wasn’t solace for Busch as the blown tire was a punch in the gut as the driver of the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota was only six laps away from his first victory of the season.

When the caution flew, Busch brought his machine down pit road for two tires, followed by most of the divers on the lead lap. However, three drivers stayed out on track and Busch restarted fifth for the green-white-checkered, ultimately finishing third.

Leaving the pits following his service, Busch’s brother Kurt slowed down the No. 18 which allowed Kyle Larson to beat him off pit road.

Busch seemed to show control after the race. “Everything’s great, we got a top-five, that’s what we set out to do today. We got a third, so we should be pumped about that and the way our Camry ran today.”
