NXS: Jones Bests Cup Drivers in Practice

CONCORD, N.C. — Experience generally beats talent, unless your name is Erik Jones and you drive the No. 20 GameStop Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing.

Finishing ahead of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regulars, Jones paced the NASCAR Xfinity series field in opening practice with a time of 29.903 seconds, beating Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney by one and two tenths of a second respectively. Generally, NSCS veterans cherry pick the NXS victory lanes but Jones has been showing all  year how he’ll be giving them a run for their money.

Jones’ teammate, Daniel Suarez, finished the session with a time of 30.029, good enough for fourth place. Completing the top-five was Ty Dillon with a time of 30.089 seconds, beating his older brother, Austin, by 0.015 seconds.

Finishing the top-ten was Cole Custer, Kyle Larson, Brennan Poole, and Brandon Jones.
