NSCS: Truex to Sit Out Practice and Qualifying on Friday at Michigan

DENVER — Martin Truex†Jr. announced Wednesday that he will miss practice and qualifying on Friday at the Michigan International Speedway. Truex’s†long time girlfriend, Sherry Pollex, was diagnosed recently with ovarian cancer.

Both Sherry and Martin would like to say thanks for†all the†well wishes around the NASCAR community as they go through this difficult process. As Sherry goes through her treatments and recovery, they have requested that everyone gives them privacy.

Matt Crafton, who captured the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship last season, will fill in for Truex†on Friday. Truex will be back behind the wheel of his No. 78 Chevrolet at Michigan on Saturday and Sunday.

“Everyone at Furniture Row Racing extends their thoughts and prayers to Sherry during her treatment and recovery period,” said Joe Garone, Furniture Row Racing General Manager. “She is a devoted supporter of our race team and we canít wait for her return to the track.”

Shortly after the news broke, Pollex tweeted her thanks for all of the well wishes she has received thus far.

Truex’s foundation, The Martin Truex, Jr. Foundation, which uses the tag line “Hooked on Helping” was founded in 2007 and works alongside nonprofit organizations who have very limited recognition and budgets. It strives to impact the lives of children who are positively in need. They work with children who are affected by illness, poverty and neglect. The foundation has raised over $1 million for children. This foundation is run by Pollex and Truex in their spare time.
