Dover Motorsports, Inc. announced on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, that they will not be seeking any NASCAR sanctioned races for the 2012 season, and will be closing the facility at the end of this year. That is, of course, old news by now. Itís a shame the fans in the Nashville area will no longer be able to enjoy watching some of the best drivers in the business battle it out in trucks and cars for the coveted Sam Bass-designed guitar trophy. Iíve been lucky enough to witness both the NCWTS and Nationwide races in Nashville for the last two years. Iíve also been fortunate to cover those races as a reporter.

For that reason, even if there were no others, Nashville Superspeedway will always hold a special place in my heart. That track is where a fan became a chronicler. Itís also where that same fan got to see behind the curtain, and become a part of the show she had always watched from the stands or from the couch. For that, I will always be grateful. I wish that every true NASCAR fan could, at least once, get to walk through the garage and see the hard work that goes into putting those race cars and race trucks on the track. I wish every fan could stand in complete awe on pit road, and watch the precise choreography of the pit crews as they execute their stops. Nashville was the first track at which I got to stand in Victory Lane. Iíve now stood there several times and it never gets old. Nashville Superspeedway, itsí wonderful staff, and dedicated volunteers gave me that. For that gift, I can never thank them enough.

On their website, it says, ďThanks for the memories!Ē Itís sad that more fans will never get the chance to have memories of great races, guitar heroes, and track puppies who hold up practice to check out the infield. Personally, Iím sorry that I wonít be heading back to that beautiful track to interview more drivers and volunteers like my buddy, Bubba. Thank you, Nashville Superspeedway, for allowing me to be a part of the sport that I love as more than a spectator. I will miss you. Thank you for the memories that will stay with me the rest of my life.
