NNS: Thursday Practice Sessions Results from Las Vegas Motor Speedway

On Thursday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, a portion of the Nationwide cars took to the track for extra practice/testing of the new cars.

With an entry list of 42 cars, no more than 36 cars practiced at once. The results varied between the two practiced.


Running only 11 laps, Carl Edwards put down the fastest lap in the session, with a speed of 177.819 mph and 30.368 seconds. Sandwiched in between him and teammate Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was Kyle Busch for the top three spots. Rounding out the top five were Denny Hamlin (in the No. 20 this weekend) and Trevor Bayne.

Making a rare Nationwide appearance, Mark Martin, driving the No. 32 Turner Motorsports Dollar General Chevrolet was sixth, followed by Brian Scott, points leader Reed Sorenson, Aric Almirola and Elliot Sadler.

The only two drivers to run 10 consecutive laps were Danica Patrick and Daryl Harr (Patrick had the best lap average).


Busch took the top spot away from Edwards in the second practice with a speed of 178.094 and a time of 30.321 seconds. Stenhouse Jr. stayed in second with Mark Martin in third. Edwards dropped to fourth and Hamlin in fifth.

Some new drivers moved up into the top 10, with Bayne, Sorenson, Scott, Kevin Harvick and Justin Allgaier rounding out the second practice top 10.

Again, two cars ran 10 consecutive laps. Kyle Busch took the top spot from laps 47 to 56 (with average speed of 176.545 mph) and the shared car of Timmy Hill/Carl Long second from laps 38 to 47 (with average speed 162.681).

The Nationwide cars take to the track at 12 PM ET/9 AM ET today for their next practice session.
