ABC Says…”Hollywood Start Your Engines”
Yes, it’s true, there is a new reality series about NASCAR. This time it’s not something like NASCAR 360, which is a really good documentary about the lives on and off the track of Nextel Cup and Busch drivers. Not this time. “Fast Cars & Superstars” is to air in June and here you have the likes of Captian Kirk, Jewel, Serena Williams and more. There are actually a few people here who could make this an interesting show. Like others who are “tough”, “hard-nosed” and willing to “put their bodies on the line”, like Bill Cower, former Pittsburgh Steeler head coach, former Denver Bronco’s Quarterback John Elway, and last but not least, my favorite, Tony Hawk. I think a big part of this is due to the popularity of Toyota’s Annual Celebrity Race.
But not only do you have the celebrities, you have the drivers. Some of the names on this list are a “who’s who” of NASCAR. For example, Jimmie Johnson, the elder Busch boy, Carl Edwards, etc. I am curious to see how this all plays out.
One thing I really like is the combination of hosts, one is Kenny Mayne of ESPN, who has such a dry sense of humor and has such a great commentating style. But my favorite comes from the world of basketball, Brad Daugherty. Now he seems like an unlikly candidate, but in fact, he has been a lifelong NASCAR fan and is now helping with hosting on NASCAR Now and making other appereances. He also is a part of the Rules and Competition committee for NASCAR, so I think he qualifies. A little known fact about him is why he picked the number 43 for his jersey number at the University of North Carolina…because his favorite driver was the King, Richard Petty.
So whether you are a fan of reality shows or not, you might just want to check out “Fast Cars & Superstars”. I have two additional links below relating to this story.
