Lawsuit Between NASCAR and AT&T

Well, it was just a matter of time before this became the forefront of the news. AT&T is officially suing NASCAR for not allowing them to change the logo on Jeff Burton’s car from Cingular to AT&T. NASCAR is up to their normal thing where they are only looking out for themselves.

Everyone knows how important sponsors are to race teams, and everyone knows that there are a limited number of corporations who can actually pony up the amount of money to be a major sponsor. So why is it that NASCAR signs exclusive deals with flagships that “forbid” any competitors? Due to Nextel’s agreement, only grandfathered teams (ie. Cingular, Altell, etc) are allowed in, but any change, eliminates them from being able to sponsor a car. They are even running into the same problem with Pennzoil and Shell, since Sunoco is now the “official racing fuel of NASCAR”. So Kevin Harvick is now trying to modify everything on his part.

When is NASCAR going to finally get this? Without all of the willing sponsors, NASCAR would not exist. Instead of creating these massive agreements to eliminate potential sponsors, embrace them all and say thank you.
